Heirloom Chairs, Made by Hand
My chairs are based on late eighteenth century Windsor chairs, which combine delicate bends with swooping carved seats.
The wood is first split and shaved very thin, along the fiber line of the living tree, then steambent to make it sturdy and flexible.
The chairs are open like nets and are almost transparent. When they’re empty, you can see through them to the rest of the room.
Careful carving by hand allows these chairs to be very strong and very light. I hope they will move with the sitter’s body the way a tree moves in the breeze.
